Cutting Down on Stress

addiction and alcoholism are believed to be a learned behavior that is masking a person's emotional or physical pain. There are almost as many treatments as there are addicts and alcoholics. Educate yourself before making any type of life-changing decison regarding alcoholism, addiction and substance abuse treatment.

Most of us live busy lives. We are constantly running around commuting to work, driving our kids all over town, doing chores and dealing with family responsibilities. Because we're always so busy, many of us suffer from the effects of stress. Not only can stress make life uncomfortable but stress increases the health risks for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Stress comes in many different forms. There are actually good types of stress that motivate people and inspire them to be successful, but it is the bad stress which most of us experience. Stress can be extremely uncomfortable and drains us of precious energy. If you are experiencing stress then try the following.

Keep a journal to figure out where stress is actually coming from. You might be surprised that your stress comes from one or two activities such as commuting or rushing home to cook dinner. Focusing on what is causing stress can help you conquer it by removing specific activities from your life or by taking steps to minimize the activity.

It is also important to get a plenty of rest. Many people are stressed out because they are not well rested and are doing too many activities without the necessary energy.

And though it may sound simple, both exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy diet helps stress from occurring in the first place. Studies show that people who work out release stress and negative energy during their exercise sessions. Working out, even simple exercise like walking, can release and relieve stress if you are frustrated, mad or upset.

None of us can be expected to have a completely stress-free life, but keeping a check on stress pays off-usually with a happier, more comfortable and much longer life.
